Ugh...this dog is just too freaking cute! I took Nib camping with us this past weekend - she loved it (except for the time she spent in the kennel). She even picked up a new nickname (courtesy of A) - El Retardo ;-p

My little guy...

My Dweezil - my kitten and constant companion for over 17 years - had a stroke (so we believe at this point in time). We've just returned from the emergency clinic - they couldn't say for sure what was going on with him but his prognosis is not so good.  We have him home tonight...tomorrow he goes to his regular vet for a more thorough examination.

When I came home from work tonight  Barry mentioned Dweez's pupils were two different sizes. His right eye is unresponsive - no reaction to light or touch. The same for the whiskers on the right side of his face. He has great difficulty walking...but he still gets around (gotta make it to that litter box...neurotic rat ;-p). He can still feel his right ear - he pushes into my hand when I rub it. The vet said to watch for seizures...if he starts to seize we have to rush him back to the hospital. He's calm now...he's sleeping on his heat pad on the sofa. Barry and I are sleeping next to him, on a sleeping bag spread across the floor.

I've had my little Dweez since he was only a teeny kitten - his eyes still closed when I found him wriggling in the street back home in New York (it's been *that* long). He was a bottle fed kitty...he traveled to work and class with me in my purse (a college educated kitty, how about that).  He used to go to the beach with me...he actually chased the waves as they receded back into the LI sound. He was brave enough to confront the seagulls head on. His best friends when he was little were my ferrets - Kara & Korey (I didn't pick the names...shaddup). He's never feared a dog...not even our big ol' mastiff Why-dog. He's greeted all visitors to our house with purr-box going full force, petting himself by standing on his hind legs and rubbing his head against what ever free hand was closest. He used to wait in the window for me...when he saw me pulling into the parking lot he would start meowing (so I've been told :) Dweez doesn't like to be alone for very long...he'll actually make himself sick over it. He slept on top of Willa as a show of dominance...or affection (who knows with this guy). He nuzzled Willa when she was sick...stayed close by even when she had her seizures. Whenever Barry or I were upset he would plant himself on our lap and purr. He is a love-slut, affection-whore...he loves his people. He loves to sleep under the blanket between the two of us...though he rarely makes it through the whole night (one or the other of us is a restless sleeper). He sucks on fuzzy blankets...kneading them with his paws...I never quite got that one, and its kinda gross to roll over face first into a patch of cat spit. He likes fuzzy toy mice...only the white ones - he won't touch any of the other mice but he'll groom the heck out of one of the white meeces. He likes to wake me up by gingerly tapping his paw on my lips...or if my mouth is open I'll wake up with a mouth full o' Dweez paw *yeck* Dweez is mad about catnip - his cat tree is coated in it. Up until last week all it took was a bit of catnip on teh tree and he was climbing it like a wild cat - demon eyes flashing. He's been quiet for a couple of days...but he gets like that from time to time. He's an old man...

Dorky fact - one of the things that won me over in the early days was how well Barry got along with Dweez. Silly, I know...but he showed a really tender side early on...and it hooked me. Dweez took to Barry right away. In a way, Dweez helped pick out my hubby ;-p

I really hope something miraculous happens before tomorrow. I don't think it will...but I really do hope so.

Just for the heck of it I knocked about 100 names off of my f-list. Mostly names that I do not recognize, non-personal/business related accounts, closed accounts or people that haven't posted since like 2003. Most communities & RSS feeds, too...just because my flist was too cluttered to read with so many community posts. I may have knocked off a few people that I didn't mean to remove (jes' let me know if I did). I also added a couple of names that I recognize - or at least I *think* I recognize - that had added me already (sorry - I didn't see you guys there :( ).

[info]great_dame recently posted in one of the dog communities I belong to regarding a charity drive for her local Humane Society -  "Mutt March" for the Michigan Humane Society. The fundraiser will "will support expansion of critical programs and services including sheltering, adoption, cruelty investigation, emergency rescue and humane education which currently benefit over 100,000 animals served each year by the Michigan Humane Society" (original post here: http://community.livejournal.com/boston_buddies/1533249.html)

Willa wasn't able to do the Altanta Humane Society Dog Walk this year so I've made a donation in Willa's memory under Gigi's (Great Dame's Boston Terrier) profile. The link is here if you want to make a donation to a very worthwhile cause: LINK to Gigi's Donation Profile

The Beast is comin' home!

"Hobby Antique Vehicle" tag in hand, we are finally on our way to pick up the Hearse...I can't wait to see it! Yesterday was a nightmare - trying to find insurance for the beast was frustrating to say the least. State Farm, the company that holds our home owners and two of our auto policies, gave us the most outrageous quote - $448 for six months of minimum liability coverage!!! They insisted on writing the policy as if the Hearse were a commercial vehicle. It's an overgrown station wagon, for Pete's sake! The chasis is no different than any other large passenger vehicle...and we have no plans to taxi cadavers ;-p A commercial policy is completely uncalled for. Anyway, we took the Gecko's advice and purchased a policy through Geico...$156 for the same coverage, for the same time period on the same vehicle (I'm going to look into moving my other policies from SF - what a rip!). Registration was a breeze despite some earlier reservations (the result of seeking advice from a govt. employee regarding the missing title). --via Sidekick II creepigurl.com myspace.com/creepigurl creepigurl.livejournal.com

Mojito flavored gum...possibly the best tasting gum ever. I'm not a big gum chewer, but I've killed a pack of this stuff in less than a day *yum*

You shouldn't try to hammer a square peg into a round hole. It is an exhausting, fruitless process for all parties involved. People are what they are - accept them as is or move on.

Then again - some want what they want, consequences be damned.

Thanks to [info]hexgirl13 I am now thoroughly addicted to Second Life. Tonight, I'm taking Hale Viking 'shopping' for my her new virtual wardrobe ~ just to find a few pieces to keep me her happy until I've figured out how to create clothing from the templates. I've got the templates, samples, Photo Shop and Paint Shop Pro ~ time, patience and talent are what I seem to be lacking ;-p I tired of Barry directing my character over my shoulder so he now has his own character, as well ~ Grim Viking (yep, Mr. & Mrs. Viking =)

I could spend hours on SL if it weren't for the annoying lag. What I really need is more RAM for more stoopid computer...stoopid lag.

Just the other day [info]hexgirl13 snapped a couple of cute pics of Wilhelmina, dressed in her Halloween finery, lounging in the leaves scattered around our front yard. This one is my favorite ~ she has that sad puppy face working for her...

Halloween decor

I forgot to mention ~ I 'decorated' my LJ for Halloween ( ::take a peek:: ). I think this is the first time I've altered my layout in over two years. It's a 'canned' layout ~ I've tweaked it a bit. I think I'll wind up tweaking it some more ~ make it 'mine' ~ and holding onto it for a while.

One thing is for sure ~ it is 'cleaner' than my previous layout...the page loads much quicker.

::edit:: I noticed, that when logged out, the layout is all sorts of screwy ~ the sidebars appear at the bottom of the screen. Weird.

...I had an absolutely fabulous time with my friends and hubby! Friday night [info]hexgirl13, [info]endzeit, [info]scarecrow777 and I met up at Frontera for mex & margaritas, etc. [info]hexgirl13 and I stayed up late preparing our costumes for Saturday night. The preparations carried on to the next day ~ leaving little time to spare for the things we had planned for the day. The time we put into prepping our costumes paid off ~ our trio looked fabulous (pics ::here::) Our night proved to be too much fun (I spent all day Sunday recovering ;-p) After meeting up at [info]endzeit's place for 'Ghost-tinis' [info]hexgirl13, [info]endzeit and I joined [info]scarecrow777 at a very, very skeery event ~ the 99x Brouhaha (the typical 99x crowd is...well...*shudders*) [info]scarecrow777 left early to go to Sid's party and our trio capped the night off with a pit-stop at [info]endzeit's for more 'Ghost-tinis' and then a visit to HexXt (my first time). While we didn't run into many people we knew at the Brouhaha, HexXt was brimming with familiar faces.

No time for a *real* update atm ~ in the meantime, Hexy has put together a good synopsis of Saturday night ::here::

Now how am I supposed to recall the order?

Pluto: And then there were eight

"The celestial body, long known as one of the nine planets of the solar system, will now be considered a "dwarf planet," the General Assembly of the 2006 International Astronomical Union ruled in a vote Thursday in Prague, Czech Republic.

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune will be defined as "classical planets.""

Latest addiction

Crystal Light On the GoMy latest addiction is the little teeny packets of Crystal Light On the Go Lemonade. I have gone through two boxes in less than a week and a half ~ greatly increasing my normal water intake (I'm usually a slacker in that respect as well ;-p). I believe each box has 14 packets and each packet should make 16 oz of drink or 20 oz if you prefer a lighter taste. Crystal Light is pretty intense normally, I prefer a less intense mix and typically get 32 oz of drink (two 16 oz glasses) out of a single packet.  I'm seriously addicted. I wind up filling myself with Crystal Light and find myself eating much smaller meals and craving afternoon snacks less often. I carry the packets in my purse if I'm going out ~ buying bottles of water in which to sprinkle the yellow powder. I'm sure some ingredient in Crystal Light causes an adverse health effect when consumed in large quantities...like my fave snack (single serving cans of Albacore Tuna...yummy but supposedly toxic).
